The second Texas Showdown tournament was made in partnership with the South By Southwest (SXSW) premiere of Bang the Machine in Austin, Texas. Super Turbo and the Tekken series made their debuts as competitive tournaments in 2002. This is was the event that "Texas Showdown" was first named; this was also the only Texas Showdown that has been held outside of Houston.
